Conundrum

I’m re-reading Mary Oliver’s collection of essays entitled “Upstream” and found this question at the end of a lovely story about her dog Sammy who endlessly chewed through ropes and climbed fences:

“Or maybe it’s all about the wonderful things that may happen if you break the ropes that are holding you.”

It spoke to me and made me pause. My first thought was that my commitments (work, family, volunteer) are a rope that is keeping me from realizing my desires. But then I wondered, “maybe my desires are a rope that is keeping me from being content with what I have.”

Hmmm.
