Wheels of justice

Sometimes, doing your civic duty means sitting bored on a wooden bench. This is the fourth time in my life that I have been called for jury duty. As was the case two of the previous three times, I am self-employed and hope to be excused. It would be a significant hardship to myself, my family and my clients. Nevertheless, attendance is mandatory, and I will have my moment to request deferral of my duty.

The courtroom is full of prospective jurors on the first Friday of February and my previous experience of this process suggests that this jury selection is for a trial that is a “big deal”, probably lengthy, and they expect to have trouble selecting a jury.

I may know more soon, but likely can’t tell anyone.
